(EWR2) 4- Emotional intelligence

Hello dear students,

I have just come back from a training in Italy on Emotional Intelligence. I decided to use this experience to design the final task of our class. I hope you'll like it!

First, I would like you to read this article on Emotional Intelligence and then this one on how to increase it in the classroom.

What do you think? What are your thoughts/ emotions?

Secondly, I recently bought this book for my family: In my heart: A book of feelings by Jo Witek and Christine Roussey.

Task 1

What?
Emotional intelligence???
... is a concept that arouses interest, in fact, the part of psychology has always aroused much interest. Knowing how to recognize and evaluate the feelings of others or our own and knowing how to deal with them is very important. The human being is a complex being by nature and both emotions and feelings are uncontrollable. If we could have a button in our brain to turn on and off as we like or dislike what goes on around us, or even the tasks we are given that sometimes are not to our liking, it would be all simpler if we called or turn off the button ... According to psychology, emotional intelligence is the competence responsible for much of the success and leadership ability .. but will ???
Perhaps…
In recent times emotional intelligence has gained importance in the most diverse personal and professional areas. An emotionally intelligent person has the conditions to encourage himself and to carry on even in the face of disappointments ... that is exactly what I am feeling ... I am encouraging myself!
But…
The first article is an extremely interesting article. I am happy to have read it and have learned more about emotional intelligence ... I as a teacher would also like to have a mood gauge, even to measure my emotions, because there are situations in the day to day that leave us sad and discouraged and others very happy and positive. But life is just the same ... At this moment I feel tired, stressed, but happy to be finishing the course ...
Knowing how to recognize ourselves or what we are feeling is a way to deal with all situations. If I had a mood meter in my classes it would be a great exercise to catch the attention of the kids. But ... I can not complain, in general, the children I have are very interested. I like them very much!
I liked the part of integrating emotional intelligence into classroom management practices, for us 1st teachers is a great exercise to do every day with the kids in the classroom. Even because I usually approach the concepts of good, tired, ungry, happy and sad ... but had never thought of assigning specific colors as referred in the article. As a rule children have in the classroom these same colors that they describe in the article, for behavior. They have in the classroom a poster in which the blue ball = very good, the green ball = good, the yellow = more or less and the red = bad behavior. Now for the feelings I can use other colors and each child will know how to identify because they are very smart.
In the second article, it is more an incentive to increase our emotional intelligence in the classroom with the emotional quotient ... I really liked Goleman's phrase, "the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, and for managing emotions well in ourselves and in our relationships ", I identify myself a lot with her.
But from what I understand, it seems to me that there is a "contradiction" in theories of the emotional quotient, which calls into question emotional intelligence.
The five "domains" that Daniel Goleman identifies are excellent for putting into practice in our daily lives (Self-awareness, motivation, self-regulation, Empathy and Adeptness).
